Rich kid-itis — why prevention is better than cure

Is your teenager displaying symptoms of rich kid-itis? Left untreated, this social disease can have financially catastrophic consequences for the children of wealthy people — but prevention is better than cure.

The early signs are a mild sense of entitlement and “hole in the pocket” syndrome. It might go a bit like this.

Child (making rare phone call): Hi. I need more money. Parent: But I loaded £50 on to your contactless card yesterday! Child: Yeah, but I spent it. Parent: Well, you should have made it last. Child: OK, I’ll just walk six miles home from Amelia’s house then.
