Yingluck Shinawatra, Thailand’s former prime minister, has been found guilty of negligence by the supreme court and sentenced to five years in prison.
The verdict against Yingluck, who vanished from public view on August 25 ahead of a court appearance at which it was to have been handed down, is a further setback for the Thai political clan.
Yingluck was accused of negligence relating to a rice subsidy scheme for Thai farmers that resulted in multibillion-dollar losses.
