Federal appeals court refuses to reinstate US travel ban

A federal appeals court has rejected Donald Trump’s request to reinstate his ban on travel to the US by all refugees and people from seven majority-Muslim nations after a lower court had halted the order.

Legal manoeuvring is set to intensify this week after the US president warned on Twitter that “many very bad and dangerous people may be pouring into our country”. Judges William Canby and Michelle Friedland of the San Francisco-based appeals court ordered lawyers to file briefs by Monday, setting the stage for a full hearing of the government’s argument.
