The US economy grew faster than previously thought in the third quarter of 2014 but the quality of that growth was mixed, according to revised data released on Tuesday.
Official statisticians revised up third-quarter growth from an annualised pace of 3.5 per cent to 3.9 per cent, but much of the gain was from higher inventories, while export growth was revised sharply downwards.
Although the figure came in well ahead of analyst expectations, it points to continued steady growth in the US economy rather than an acceleration.
