Huawei rules out making acquisitions

Huawei has ruled out making any acquisitions to take advantage of weaknesses in rivals such as BlackBerry or Alcatel-Lucent, even as it seeks to build up global leadership positions in smartphones and telecoms network equipment.

Eric Xu, in his first interview since taking the lead of the Chinese group last month as one of its three rotating chief executives, said that the company would meet its targets through further investment in its core product lines.

In spite of rumours of talks over the summer with Nokia, which eventually agreed to sell its handset business to Microsoft, Mr Xu said that Huawei would not acquire any other smartphone maker. He said that the group had not spoken with BlackBerry during the recent sales process.
