Xiaomi, the Chinese technology group, is branching out from smartphones into China’s increasingly competitive market for smart television sets.
The private company, which said its latest round of fundraising valued it at $10bn, launched a $489 TV in Beijing yesterday.
Xiaomi’s founder, Lei Jun, also stole a march on Apple by launching a flagship phone available in multiple colours that costs about $325.
