Google's head of China resigns

The head of Google in China resigned on Friday, in a sign that the company could be adjusting its strategy to break into the world's largest market by internet users.

“Dr Kai-Fu Lee, president of Google China and vice president of engineering, will leave Google in mid-September,” the company said. It did not give any reason for his departure but added Mr Lee would establish a new venture in Beijing.

Google did not announce a successor to Mr Lee's role as president. John Liu, currently head of the sales team in Greater China, will take over Mr Lee's business and operational responsibilities, while Boon-Lock Yeo, who heads Google's Shanghai engineering office, will become the company's engineering head for China.
