Lawyers acting for a technology millionaire embroiled in a legal dispute with Sotheby's have accused the auction house of failing to disclose an alleged conflict of interest in two paintings it sold last year.
The allegation, vigorously denied by Sotheby's, has arisen in a protracted lawsuit involving the auction house and Halsey Minor, the San Francisco millionaire founder of CNET, the technology news site.
The case has shone a light on the inner workings of Sotheby's and the financing methods employed by auction houses when buying and selling high-value artworks.
