The Trump administration has reimposed tariffs of 10 per cent on US trading partners by invoking Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. This followed a Supreme Court ruling that Trump exceeded his authority in using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose tariffs on dozens of countries. Overall, the US effective tariff rate is still at its highest level since the 1940s.
