The humbling of Christian Horner: how F1’s scrappy fighter ran out of road

Red Bull fired Horner after poor performances on the track and an exodus of key staff. Now it faces an uncertain future.

As Christian Horner stood with his head bowed before King Charles, the Red Bull racing chief ended the most tumultuous of his 20 years at the top of motorsport on a high note.

Horner’s invite to Buckingham Palace last December marked an important step in his rehabilitation from a damaging scandal, sparked by a female colleague accusing him of inappropriate behaviour.

But less than seven months since he was formally made a Commander of the British Empire, Formula 1’s longest-serving team principal was this week axed by Red Bull after presiding over a deterioration in performances and an exodus of key staff.
