Nissan chief Makoto Uchida to step down after collapse of Honda merger talks

Chief planning officer Ivan Espinosa to take the helm as Japanese carmaker revamps leadership for turnaround

Nissan’s chief executive Makoto Uchida is stepping down after growing calls for his resignation in the wake of deteriorating financial performance and the collapse of merger talks with rival Honda.

Nissan said it needed “a significantly renewed leadership line-up to achieve the company’s short and midterm objectives while positioning it for long-term growth”.
